My favorite memory of Tori Amos
...is actually more than one. I knew her in high school when she was still “Ellen.” We sat next to each other in Mr. Benedict’s first period choir class, 1st soprano section. She had already been singing for ages and had started doing the D.C. club circuit. Even back in ‘79-’80 she knew she was going to be “Tori.” I never doubted this. And yes, she has always had a fantabulous voice.
Back to the favorite memory theme… I sure don’t remember- and I’ll bet Tori doesn’t either- just how many times poor ol’ Mr. B. scolded us for chatting and/or cutting up during rehearsals. It was kind of like having your grandpa miffed at you, but not enough to get really bent about it.
On those occasions Tori and I would look at each other trying to gauge just how perturbed Mr. B. actually was with us. Then would come the stifled snorts and giggles as we tried to regain composure. This was usually when the little platinum blonde princess wanna-be who sat in front of us would turn around and mutter stuff like, “Oh my God- you’re both so immature!”
Yeah, Freddie. Thanks for sharing.
